1 Piece (stylized as Ane Piece ) is a Japanese anime television serial produced past Toei Animation that premiered on Fuji Television set in Oct 1999. It is based on Eiichiro Oda'south manga series of the same name. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a male child whose body gained the backdrop of rubber afterward unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the earth's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate Male monarch.

English language localization and broadcasting [edit]

On June eight, 2004, 4Kids Amusement acquired the license for distribution of One Piece in North America;[four] 4Kids contracted Viz Media to handle home video distribution. 4Kids' in-business firm musicians wrote a new groundwork score and theme song nicknamed "Pirate Rap". 4Kids' dub mandated edits for content and length, which reduced the offset 143 episodes into 104.[v] Initially, 4Kids originally created an English version of the beginning opening theme, "Nosotros Are!" by Russell Velazquez.[six] It premiered in the United States on September 18, 2004 on the Trick network every bit part of the weekend programming cake FoxBox TV, and later aired on Cartoon Network on their Saturday dark action programming block, Toonami in Apr 2005. On February 12, 2013, information technology was announced that Manga Entertainment would offset releasing the Funimation dub of I Slice in the United Kingdom in a DVD box set format.[24] Crunchyroll began simulcasting the series on November two, 2013, for the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America.[25] Crunchyroll later expanded access to the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland and Ireland, besides as a bulk of European territories, on February 22, 2020.[26] In April 2020, Netflix officially announced that they would be streaming One Piece starting on June 12 of the aforementioned year, for the United States, Canada, Commonwealth of australia, and New Zealand.[27]

Music [edit]

Music soundtracks have been released that are based on songs that premiered in the series. Kohei Tanaka and Shiro Hamaguchi equanimous the score for 1 Piece.[33] Various theme songs and grapheme songs were released.

The anime television series consists of forty pieces of theme music; 23 opening themes and 18 ending themes. As of episode 279, ending themes were omitted and, starting from episode 326 onwards, opening themes were extended from 110 seconds long to 150 seconds long. In episodes i-206 of Crunchyroll, LLC's English-language release of the serial, the opening and ending themes were dubbed into English by various vocalization actors, before reverting to the Japanese versions from episodes 207 onwards and some openings were not licensed by Funimation'south release at the time, which is also affected by English-speaking territories.

On August 11, 2019, it was appear that Sakuramen, a musical group will be collaborating with Kohei Tanaka to compose music for the anime'south 20th flavour.[34]

On December 23, 2019, a teaser video was uploaded on Arashi's YouTube channel, in collaboration with the anime. Critical reception [edit]

In a review of the second DVD release of 4Kids Amusement'southward dub, Todd Douglass, Jr. of DVD Talk called its adaptation a "shabby treatment" resulting in an "arguably less enjoyable rendition". Douglass said that the 4Kids original opening was "a crappy rap song" and that the removal of whole scenes leaves a "feeling that something is missing". He later went on to say that "Fans of the 'real' One Piece volition want to skip picking [...] upward [4Kids Amusement's 1 Piece DVDs] until an uncut release is announced", and too stated that "kids may get into this version because information technology's what they have seen on TV".[56] Margaret Veira of activeAnime praised the TV series' "cracking" blitheness, stating that "It gives life and stays true to the manner and characters of the manga."
